While you sit and wonder whether Taymerica will make a return this year after 2017’s hiatus, here is a history of all of the crazy over-the-top Taylor Swift 4th of July parties.
Every summer, Taylor Swift fans look forward to her epic Rhode Island 4th of July parties to be splattered across social media. The swimsuits, guest list and celebrations have all evolved alongside Swift’s personal life and career. With the singer having retreated almost completely from social media, all her fans want to know if she will be throwing a big blowout this year, especially since she is on tour.
To ease your anticipation, here is a timeline of Swift’s 4th of July parties over the years.
1. 2013: The year it all began
Swift purchased her Watch Hill house this year, and this was probably the first chance she had to throw a big party in it, since she was on tour. Back then, she posted content on her blog, because this was before Instagram took over the world. She wrote, “Happy belated 4th of July. Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays of the year. This time around, my touring family joined me at the beach and I wanted to show you some of the pictures because you’re the reason we all get to be on tour together.” Back then, instead of being surrounded with her famous squad, Taylor partied with her tour crew. The group participated in synchronized jumping, face paintings and fireworks.
2. 2014: The Squad starts gathering
Famous names started to invade Swift’s parties, as The Squad started to get together. Haim, Emma Stona, Andrew Garfield, Ingrid Michaelson, Jaimie King, and Lena Dunham all showed up to bake apple pie in their swimsuits. A boat ride and a slip and slide were also main attractions at the party, along with sparklers, which are pretty much a staple at any Taylor Swift party. Although Swift herself purged her entire Instagram account, pictures from other attendees are still there to remember the party by.
Battling the elements… Happy Fouth!!! @ingridmichaelson @amandygriffith @taylorswift @lenadunham (who did a death defying indoor sparkler selfie- see her insta)
3. 2015: Scotland and America
The Taylor Swift 4th of July was well on its way to being immortalized in the party house of fame, and The Squad was almost fully formed. The attendees this year included models, actors, and musicians. Some noticeable names include Gigi Hadid, Martha Hunt, Nick and Joe Jonas, Hai, and Serayah. The inflatable slide returned and the infamous American flag onesies came out as the evening came around. Polaroids, popsicles, small American flags and sparklers (of course) dominated the event. Taylor also posted the infamous picture of herself and Calvin Harris, captioning it, “Friendly relations between Scotland and America.” The synchronized jump happened once again, because what is the 4th of July if not one giant tradition.
4. 2016: I Heart T.S.
The “I Heart T.S.” year (enough said?). Although Tom Hiddleston later explained that the tank top was a huge joke, fans have never quite recovered from the actor walking around in the ocean with that declaration across his chest. This was also the year when Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds decided to pose with the Taylor and Tom, making for awkwardness all around when Swift dumped him a few weeks later. The inflatable slide came back labelled Taymerica and the onsies made a return. The guest list only swelled up from the preceding year, so Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Tom Hiddleston, Ruby Rose, Karlie Kloss, Cara Delevingne, St. Vincent, Abigail Anderson (Taylor’s childhood friend), Josh Kushner (brother of Jared Kushner and dating Karlie Kloss), Austin Swift, Uzo Aduba and Brittany Maack (Taylor’s childhood friend) were all in attendance.
5. 2017: Radio Silence
Although fans were sure Swift would return from her online disappearance by throwing a massive 4th of July party, they were disappointed when the water slide that was set up went back down without any mention on social media. It was later speculated that Taylor had not wanted to take the time off from working on Reputation, nor did she want to flaunt her relationship with Joe Alwyn in front of other people. She had therefore skipped out on celebrating at all.
Taylor does have a gap between her June 30 and July 7 tour dates, but it is yet to be seen whether that gap was penciled in for the sake of 4th of July. Given that Taylor has not spoken up about her relationship and that she does not post personal content on her social media anymore, it is unlikely that a huge 4th of July blowout happens.
Taylor Swift’s Reputation tour is returning from the UK to the USA.
