A week after the couple has adopted triplets, their doctor gives them this news
Sometimes, fate can throw you a curve. This is especially true in the case of Sarah and Andy Justice, a couple from Tulsa, Okla., Who desperately want to be parents. After years of unsuccessful attempts at design, the judges decided it was time to consider adoption.
Yet, as their three long years of waiting to conceive, the adoption process turned out just as frustrating. Yet the couple persevered and soon had the chance to adopt not one, but two, but three babies. Once the triplets are born, however, something incredible has happened …
Table for two
Sarah and Andy Justice had been married for three years and while they loved life together, they lacked one vital thing: their own children. It was not for lack of trying, they just had no luck. After three years of waiting, it seemed like they needed help.
Sarah and Andy decided it was time to seek advice from a fertility expert. In early 2014, the two men left their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to travel to St. Louis, Missouri for help from a fertility specialist. The judges drove for nearly six hours, but when they arrived, they received more bad news …
The specialist told the couple that even though they were perfect candidates for in vitro fertilization treatment, there was only a 10% chance that they would become pregnant. The process was also a little more intrusive than the couple had been prepared for. Plus, the process would not be really cheap either.
Too Much Money, Honey
It turns out that in vitro fertilization is very expensive. The process would cost the judges between $ 30,000 and $ 60,000. Between the extremely prohibitive cost and the fact that even if they tried it, it may not work, the couple decided that it was not the right path for them.
However, even the adoption had some difficulties. On the one hand, the process may take years to finalize, and the judges were, like most people who choose to adopt, interested primarily in newborns. Still, they were ready to do whatever they needed to get the ball rolling, including a series of interviews.
As part of the adoption process, Sarah and Andy had to be interviewed by future biological mothers to determine if the couple would be suitable as parents. The interviews, although cordial and successful at the end, were exhausting and tedious for the judges. Unfortunately, their struggle to build their family was far from over …
Disappointments Come in Pairs
The judges were accepted as adoptive parents twice after the interviews. However, in both cases, biological mothers changed their minds at the last minute. Just when it seemed like everything was fine, they had to start all over again. But they were not going to give up so easily.
Finally, when they were low, the judges received a call. One of their pregnant women had accepted them as parents. They met her again and even took her to an ultrasound appointment. Everything seemed perfectly normal during the scan, but there was a little surprise that neither the mother nor the judges had planned: the woman had triplets …
Rather than trying to go back on the agreement, the judges decided to go ahead with the adoption and accept the three babies. The papers were signed, after all. Sarah and Andy were about to become proud parents of three beautiful newborns. It was not something they had been prepared for …
Ready To Be Parents?
In fact, the situation suited the couple perfectly. They had already planned to have more than one child, but had feared the prospect of a second adoption process. It seemed that now they had the perfect situation: several children at a time. Soon, they were ready to meet their newborn triplets …
Meeting the Babies
The babies, Hannah, Joel and Elizabeth, were born in May 2013. In another twist of fate, the triplets were born eight weeks earlier. The tiny babies weighed only three pounds each, which meant they had to be in neonatal intensive care for a while before they could go home with their new parents.
A week after their untimely birth, Sarah Justice decided to go to a doctor herself. The stress of the whole situation had slightly affected her health and she wanted to make sure that she felt better by the time the triplets returned home. When the doctor finally came in, he had incredible news; she was not sick, she was pregnant. It was a miracle, and besides, she was expecting twins …
Life is Funny
Fate is a fun thing. Although this incredible and unlikely event seemed like a bad time for most people, the judges understood the humor. The irony of the situation has not escaped them either, nor the difficulty of raising five children under one year old. But Sarah and Andy were mentally and emotionally prepared for what was coming.
They were, of course, shocked, even slightly overwhelmed by the news, who would not be? But they had long dreamed of a family of their own, they could not help but consider the unique situation as a true blessing. Soon, they welcomed their biological twins, Andrew and Abigail, into their home. It was going to be a big adjustment …
The situation was not easy, of course. With five hungry babies, the couple did not sleep much during the first few months. Fortunately, Sarah and Andy had the support of their community and their family. Friends, neighbors, members of their parish, everyone participated in the new family of seven.
Members of Eastland Baptist Church in Tulsa started sending food for the family. They sent cooked meals, frozen dinners and infant formula. Their friends at the church even offered to help watch the five babies of Justice while the couple was at work. And it was not just food and time that their friends gave them, either …
Supplies a’ Plenty
Diapers, bottles, blankets, clothes: everything came from donations around Tulsa. Supplies were absolutely necessary. The five infants went through 300 diapers and 84 bottles a week. And because it was such a task to get kids from one place to another, they had to get a bigger van.
Telling Them Apart
Sarah and Andy had a little trouble distinguishing babies at first, despite their slight age difference. To solve this problem, they developed a system. The boys were pretty easy, for obvious reasons. But for their older daughters, Hannah and Elizabeth, the parents used colored nail polish. Soon, the judges were internet celebrities …
The history of the justice clan has instantly become viral and in the three years since the judges became parents, they have won an impressive number of fans on Facebook. The world is constantly watching their photos and fantastic updates. Indeed, the couple who thought never to be parents, even welcomed a sixth child in January 2016.
Despite the crazy demands that judges face every day, they say they would not change it for the world. Their life has become a baby affair, but both think it’s a good thing. “It was something we wanted so much that we loved it,” says Sarah Justice. “We really love having these kids.”
